Who can enrol in a class?
You must be a member of KMVU3A to enrol in a class.
When you enrol in your first class/es for the year you will be required to join or renew your membership.

  • If enrolling online after selecting your classes - the system will require you to join or renew if applicable before allowing you to complete the enrolment and will add the membership fee to the amount owing
  • If enrolling using the paper forms you must add the membership fee to the amount owing if applicable

How many classes can I enrol in?
Once you have become a member of KMVU3A you can enrol in as many classes during the Membership year as you wish.
Each class has an additional fee as explained below.

How long do classes go for?
  • Classes are organised into:
    • Four terms per year which are usually the same as school terms with a break between each term
      • Term dates can be found on the Notice Board page of this website
      • A few classes do not take breaks between terms
      • 6-8 weeks per term
    • 2-3 hours per week typically
    • Many classes have a refreshment break in the middle of the class

  • Most classes run for the full year but some classes only run for one or two terms or part of a term
    • If you enrol in a class that runs for the full year you will automatically be enrolled for each term
  • Occasionally there are one day or weekend classes

How much do classes cost?
Fee options for the current year will be displayed in the class description and on the Noticeboard page. and are chosen when enroling.

Depending on the class there may be several fee options available to choose eg:
  • Half year (2 terms or semester)
  • Full year (4 terms)
  • Or occasionally a 1 term or session fee
  • Fees are not refundable.
Class fees are due before you attend your first class, which is generally at the beginning of each term.
Fees cover the costs of providing the venue, printed material etc, depending on the requirements of each course.

How do classes operate?
This depends on the type of class but generally courses are relaxed and informal so members can enjoy learning with people their own age and with similar interests.

Some classes follow a set routine but in many the topics can be flexible and modified to suit each particular class.  Class members are often encouraged to have input into aspects of the class content.

There are no exams. Each person can delve into the class topic as much or as little as they wish.

Is the class suitable for me?
  1. The class description on this website indicates the content to be covered in each class including equipment and safety requirements
  2. Members are solely responsible for the class choices they make
  3. Members are solely responsible for ensuring the class is suitable for their own physical abilities and requirements
    1. During a class, members are solely responsible for their own health and safety and the level of participation in any activity where physical ability and health status are concerned
  4. If you have additional queries or worries please discuss with the tutor and / or your doctor before enrolling.

By enrolling in a class you confirm that you have read and agreed to our Terms and Conditions available here, which includes all our Policies and Procedures and the the Safety Policy and Procedures - click here to read these.

Where are classes held?
Classes are held in a wide variety of locations within the Kempsey Shire. Classes are held in a variety of community halls, business locations and private homes in the area. Some classes are held in our office building at 46a Tozer St.

Some classes, eg Canoeing/ Kayaking, the Macleay Meanders and Gardening get out and about in the wider region.

The class location can be found in the class description on our website.

When do I enrol?
Enrolment Is usually made at the beginning of the year or a term, but may be possible at any time if there is a vacancy in the class and the class is suitable for people to join mid course. Some courses do NOT take any new members after a certain date. In these cases online enrolment will be closed on the date no more enrolments are allowed.

Enrolment can be completed online or offline
  • Online enrolment via the Current classes page of this website is preferred as it saves significant manual processing
    • If is similar to shopping online and instructions are provided
  • Face to face Enrolment Days are also held - usually at the beginning and in the middle of the year
  • Read about these and email/ delivery enrolment options on the Enrol FAQ page

Current dates and information about enrolment can be found:
    • On the NOTICE BOARD page of this website
    • In information emailed to members

Class eligibility and maximum numbers
  1. You must be a financial member to enrol in a class
  2. All classes have a maximum number of people that can be enrolled.
  3. Enrolment in most classes is on a first-come-first-served basis except for:
      1. continuing classes in which knowledge from previous classes is required
      2. classes in which there are particular tutor requirements
  4. Except for continuing classes or classes with particular requirements, NO preference is given to members enrolled in any course in previous years.
      1. If the same course is offered in a subsequent year, you usually must re-enrol for that year’s course.

Waitlist
  1. You can be added to the waitlist for most courses and events once the maximum number is achieved.
  2. It is a good idea to put yourself on a wait list as vacancies do occur and if so you will be eligible to gain a place. In addition it lets us know what demand there is for classes and it may be possible to increase the maximum class numbers or open an additional class.
  3. If a space becomes available in a full course or event, the first person on the waitlist will be notified and asked if they are still interested.
    1. If that person is unable to accept the position, the place is offered to the next person on the list.
    2. If an additional course is organised for a full course, spaces are automatically offered to the people on the waitlist, in the order in which they were waitlisted, before being opened for bookings by other members.

Do you have a suggestion for a class or could you be a leader?
Most courses are led by members, who have a special interest to deliver a course. The course leader or presenter is somewhat like a teacher, lecturer, facilitator or convenor.

Members are encouraged to lead courses because without course leaders we could not function.
If you are interested in leading a course on something you have a passion for or a particular area of expertise, please contact the Course Co-ordinator. No formal academic qualifications are needed to deliver courses. We also welcome new ideas about courses from our members.

If are interested in finding out more about a particular area of knowledge or have an idea for a social or exercise activity - tell us and maybe we can find a leader and make it happen!

Contact the committee if:
  • you have a suggestion for a course
  • you are interested in becoming a course leader to pass on some of your knowledge
