About U3A
U3A or University of the Third Age is a concept which developed in France in 1973 and has rapidly spread to other countries, reaching Australia in 1984. Today there are U3A groups or branches in most cities and many towns across Australia. It's purpose is to offer mature aged people low cost opportunities to use their leisure time to learn and teach together. A wide variety of courses are offered, depending on the interests and skills of the local members.
Any person who is retired or semi retired may become a member or a class leader. People must be a member of a U3A branch to access the courses of that branch. U3A branches are voluntary, not-for-profit organsations run by members.
